FUNDING CRITERIA

APPLICATION REVIEW

As soon as your application is received, qualifying applications will undergo a review process, during which our staff member studies the application and the issue it is meant to address. During this stage, our staff member may contact the organization with questions. No response will be given to applications that do not fall within our guidelines.

Making a choice among the many worthy projects submitted is necessary but difficult. Due to the nature of the applications submitted and limitations of our financial and human resources, The Sprott Foundation must decline between 70 and 85 percent of requests received in any given year.

Some applications go through a more lengthy review process, which can last up to several months, and some of those will be recommended to The Sprott Foundation board for approval. Once a decision has been made by the Board, you will be informed of the fact in writing, including the amount, durations and terms of the grant if it has been approved.

If your organization is a fit with our mandate, and has the qualities we are seeking in a programme, we will contact you for further information and to set up a site visit. Please note that it is the policy of The Sprott Foundation to conduct two site visits, one formal, organized visit, and one unexpected visit to ensure integrity of programmes before grants are made. In addition, intermittent site visits after a grant has been made are required as part of any agreement between The Sprott Foundation and grantees.
