FUNDING CRITERIA
GRANT GUIDELINES
While many requests fall within our guidelines and certainly merit support, The Sprott Foundation is only able to make grant awards to a limited number of organizations each year.
Grants are only made to organizations that are recognized by Canada Revenue Agency as a Canadian Registered Charity. The organization must have a Business Number/Registration Number. Furthermore, The Sprott Foundation will not consider organizations that do not fit with our mandate, multiple solicitations (mass mail) or applications sent by fax, e‑mail or phone inquiries. Please note that no response will be given to organizations who propose grants in these manners or to those who do not fit with our mandate.
THE SPROTT FOUNDATION HAS ONLY ONE STAFF MEMBER, PLEASE BE CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE A QUALIFIED CANDIDATE BEFORE APPLYING.
The Sprott Foundation does not provide grants for:
- Operating Expenses
- Salaries
- Research
- Deficit Reduction
- Seminars
- Tours
- Conferences
- Travel Expenses
- Activities previously supported through government funding
- Sabbatical leaves or student exchanges
- Religious or Political Organizations
- Individuals
Please note that we cannot consider requests from any foreign destinations, unless there is a formal link with a registered Canadian charity.
BEFORE you mail in your donation request:
Our FAQ page can provide insight and answer questions - please review if seriously considering sending in a donation request.
- The Sprott Foundation will NOT consider any donation request unless all the requested financial statements are submitted. THESE INCLUDE AUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AS WELL AS INCOME/EXPENSE STATEMENTS.
- Please keep packages brief. Ideally, the package will have a cover letter, one page of data/accomplishments etc and then the financial statements. We understand if your financial statements are several pages. We only want the basic information for the initial donation request, not pages upon pages of extra data and material.
- Please DO NOT mail in brochures, photos, CDs, DVDs, newspaper articles, promotional material, books, artwork etc with your initial donation request. If we want further information, we will follow up with your charity.
- Please keep in mind that we have only one staff person and we receive hundreds of requests that do not fit with our mandate. Our staff person opens and reviews every single piece of mail that comes our way. As a result, it could be weeks before we contact your charity.
- Please do not follow up with us- we will contact you if we are interested in learning more.
- No Phone Calls or Emails to make a donation request, to follow up or to invite us to an event.
