ABOUT US
JULIANA SPROTT
Since being a young child, I have been a traveller. I have visited over 30 countries and have found that my life is guided by three main themes:
- Compassion for those in need
- Having enthusiasm for life and its possibilities
- Savouring the moments of pure fun on this beautiful planet
I was born in Toronto in 1975, and was lucky to become bilingual in French at a young age. I graduated with a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1997.
I decided to go into sports broadcasting and I worked in a variety of capacities on shows such as Hockey Night in Canada and then in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Since becoming the president of The Sprott Foundation, I have experienced both delight and growing pains as we developed our philantrhopic style. I went from having no idea what smart philanthropy looked like to now crafting innovative, significant gifts with our grantees, with whom I have special relationships.
My philanthropic acumen comes from taking The Philanthropy Workshop, offered by the institute for philanthropy, attending third sector events and meeting impressive people who inspire and educate me. There have also been years of reflection and examination about how The Sprott Foundation can do its best to serve our grantees. We are ever growing, changing and evolving in how we give and interact with the charities we serve.
Much like the themes that influence my personal life, I try to bring these guiding forces into the philanthropy of The Sprott Foundation. To me, being genuinely compassionate about what a charity needs financially from us, and to figure out together how our gifts can help them thrive are central to our donating strategy and our principles as a family foundation.
