VIZMA SPROTT

Vizma Sprott is Latvian and was born in Germany in 1945. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1949. After completing her Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Toronto, Vizma opened her bookstore, Bookers, in the town of Oakville, Ontario. Over many years, Vizma won numerous awards from the town of Oakville for her contribution to the Arts. Vizma received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mayor in 2001.

Since December 1988, Vizma has been involved with The Sprott Foundation by establishing the mandate and representing the foundation at various events. In 2002, Eric and Vizma Sprott received the Association of Fundraising Professionals Philanthropy Award for Outstanding Individual Philanthropists in Ottawa.

Vizma's philanthropic philosophy stems from her desire to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Vizma's philanthropic drive is guided by her "desire to share and feelings of empathy for people who were born into adverse circumstances." Vizma believes that having hope is central to a person’s journey from merely surviving to genuinely thriving.

In her spare time, Vizma enjoys golfing, traveling and art collecting.
